Features and Benefits of Backup Bumper Sensors
Parking Aid - Backup Bumper Sensors are an obstacle detection system that contains 4 flush-mounted bumper sensors which radiate ultrasonic beams covering the area behind the vehicle. The beams are reflected by obstructions and objects behind the vehicle and re-enter the sensors. The reflected beam information is processed and the distance to the object is shown on the dash-mounted display. To alert the driver, audible signals are also emitted. The shorter the distance the more intense the audio signals become. The system is activated when reverse gear is engaged and senses objects up to 5 feet away.
This type of rear bumper protection is quickly becoming a standard for most car makers. Many luxury models are equipped with reversing aid system as standard equipment but that does not mean other models are less prone to rear bumper damage, even from low-speed fender-benders.
