Remote Keyless Entry System (RKE)
Remote Keyless Entry system, also called remote central locking system, offers the driver the option of locking and unlocking their vehicle door locks from a distance by pressing a button on a key-chain fob or a remote control, without using a traditional mechanical key. Most modern vehicles have remote keyless entry as standard equipment but there are still some vehicle models that don't. Remote Keyless Entry system may perform other functions such as opening electric trunk or rear gate of an SUV. On some minivans, the power sliding doors can be opened and closed remotely.
More advanced systems can roll up open windows and roof when remotely locking the car. Some remote keyless fobs also feature a 'panic' button which activates the car horn.
Key fobs operate within 200 ft of the vehicle making it possible to have everything unlocked and ready to go when you reach the vehicle.
